What Is CASA?.

The Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program is a non-profit corporation whose goal is to assure that the best interests of abused and neglected children are served. To meet this goal, CASA recruits and trains volunteers to serve as advocates for these special children. CASA volunteers, who are appointed by the court, work with others involved in the case toward the child's placement in a permanent home. The basis of the CASA concept is that every child has a safe, permanent home.

CASA was developed in 1977 by a Superior Court Judge in Seattle, Washington. He sought to ensure that the best interests of abused and neglected children appearing before him were being served by involving volunteers to advocate for individual children.

Locally, the CASA Program has been functioning since June of 2006, after receiving a national CASA grant. Today, we play an active role in the CASA movement throughout Kentucky, serving the counties of Lincoln, Pulaski, and Rockcastle, which make up the 28th Judicial Circuit Court District.

The 28th Judicial Circuit CASA is one of 20+ CASA programs in Kentucky and one of over 900 programs in the United States.
